DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT:
It all started when a state trooper pulled me over on the Chicago Skyway going 74 in a 55. Immediately my first thought was, “You should have seen me when I was doing 90,” but I kept my mouth shut. Normally I would contest the ticket in court and hope the cop doesn’t show up so it gets thrown out, but I had just done that 2 months prior and figured traffic school might be a better option. My failure to fill out the necessary paper work for the online class turned out to be a blessing in diguise as the 4 hours of hell I was put through on August 22, 2008 was more than enough material to put together my latest short film, ”Traffic School.” There was no test; instead we spent 4 hours talking about stop signs, speeding, road rage, and drunk driving. Annoyed and bored out of my mind, I turned to my cell phone to check the score of the Cubs game. That didn’t go over well with the teacher who then threatened to kick me out of class, so I had to stop. Meanwhile other people in the class were breaking rules by eating and drinking during class. My treatment seemed unfair and I felt like the instructor had it out for me. I didn’t meet any girl in class that day, but everything else in “Traffic School” is true to my experience, with a few exaggerations of course. Hope you enjoy! |
